GA Liberal - Part 9 of 10
March 3, 2009
You seem targeted toward UGA Students. What is your broader appeal to the local residents of ACC?
From the beginning of my campaign, I have worked on developing an all-district canvassing plan. Each of the eight geographical districts of Athens-Clarke County is important and deserves to be equally represented. I believe in a pragmatic approach towards finding solutions to the issues facing the citizens of Athens as a whole, not necessarily one group of constituents. Although I am the same age as many of the students in Athens, age should not and will not be an issue of this campaign. Instead, it will be based upon the ability to demonstrate leadership that will be beneficial to all of Athens.
The foundation of my campaign is built upon a grassroots movement that brings everyone together to seek the common goal of a united and prosperous Athens.
I believe that each citizen of Athens-Clarke County should have the opportunity to get involved with the local government if they so desire. Many of the legislative committees simply cannot adequately tend to the many issues at hand. By dividing the workload, offering more opportunities to all citizens, all districts, and the entire county as a whole, we can more effectively resolve the issues while restoring the public trust.
I will work with the public to find solutions to this issues that directly affect the citizens.
Would you continue the practice of allowing domestic partners of ACC employees to have similar rights to those of married couples?
If elected, I will not tear down policies that have been proven effective in our community. My job as mayor would be to continue to build upon the policies that have worked and promote change to those that have not.
