The stimulus package…
First of all, we have been in a recession since December 2007. The current economical situation is the result of spending money that we did not have, borrowing money while already in a deficit, and increased inflation. All of which are directly related to the lack of regulation in a regulated market. We have gotten ourselves stuck between a rock and a hard place, and now we are in a situation that requires a stimulus package. One thing is for certain; we have to learn to move beyond throwing money at problems with hope that somehow the problem will simply disappear. We should never spend money on economic stimulation if it does not encourage productivity, responsibility, or improve our quality of life.
The projects listed in the current stimulus package focus on rebuilding America. The stimulus package is directed towards making sound investments in areas that will preserve current jobs and create new jobs that will help stabilize our country. The Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is supposed to have the ability to save or create up to four million jobs nationally. Those jobs will consist of duties such as repairing roads and bridges, as well as build a stronger foundation to prevent future devastating consequences of disasters such as hurricane Katrina.
Other projects listed in the stimulus package to benefit America are those such as increasing jobs through the exploration of energy alternatives in order to decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
Our hard-hit economy has become tremendously weakened, and I believe that it will require more than just tax cuts to help restore our nation’s economy. I support President Obama’s stimulus package because I believe that it has the ability to provide relief to our current economical condition. Although the economy is expected to slowly gain strength, failure to pass the stimulus bill would result in greater economical deficits, more layoffs, foreclosures, loss of income, and further decreased confidence of the American people.
