The Same Ole Charlie Maddox
10-25-2009

In Athens, we are approaching the one-year mark before citizens will return to the polls to elect a new Mayor. Ladies and gentlemen, a familiar face has emerged from the five declared candidates - Charlie Maddox.  And guess what, it’s the same Charlie Maddox from 2006.

You know the same Charlie Maddox who was largely funded by special interest and big business? The same ole' Charlie Maddox who spearheaded a campaign against health insurance for gay, and unmarried straight Athens-Clarke County employees? The same Charlie Maddox who wanted to overturn all environmental protections put forth by Heidi Davison and the commissioners.

Yes, the same Charlie Maddox who publicly stated that Mayor Davison should discontinue her focus on “quality of life” issues and try to bridge together a relationships with the Chamber of Commerce to bring jobs instead. You see, Charlie forgot that without a thriving quality of life, there are no jobs.

If elected, I’ll start at step one and not step three.

In his newly released platform… well, it looks about the same as his last. Take a look for yourself. It’s the same ole Charlie Maddox.

The people of Athens are called upon, again.. to hold Charlie accountable for failing to mention open government and transparency, environmental aspirations, and joint efforts to rid our city of a rising crime problem.

Charlie and I have many different ideas for the future of Athens-Clarke County. My highest priority is to work for the people of Athens, and my message has not altered. I personally invite you to my campaign website, where you can read more about my stance on the issues. We will be actively posting issue updates throughout the election.

I also invite you to share your questions and comments with me and my staff. I am willing to listen to all those Athenians who choose to share their voices in shaping the future of this great city.
