Brandon Shinholser's Response to the Discovery of Zinkhan's Body
May 11, 2009
On Saturday May 9, cadaver dogs helped discover the remains of murder suspect George Zinkhan III. According to authorities, the body was found in a wooded area located about a mile from where Zinkhan's vehicle was previously discovered. The body appeared to be buried in a shallow grave, and concealed with brush and dirt, so that it would be less noticeable to the wandering eye. Two hand guns were also found in the gravesite. The Alpha Search and Rescue Team, a nonprofit organization founded by dedicated volunteers, helped tremendously in bringing this manhunt to a close. While the body and materials recovered undergo testing, Athens-Clarke Police Captain Clarence Holeman says that more information will be released at a Tuesday press conference.
I want to thank the involved agencies and law enforcement for their hard work and dedication to keeping our city safe and searching in all parts of the country to find Zinkhan.
As the manhunt for Zinkhan comes to a close, we should all say a special prayer for the victims of this tragedy, and for our beloved community. We must learn from this incident, and work together as a community to prevent future tragedies like this from happening again.
